Tiger to play Pebble Beach

Former world number one Tiger Woods has announced his 2012 US PGA Tour season will start at the Pebble Beach National Pro-Am.

Woods has not played in the tournament since 2002 but will return to Monterey County in California on February 6.

Woods finished in a tie for fourth in his last appearance at Pebble Beach at the 2010 U.S. Open.

“It will be fun going back,” Woods announced via his official website.

“It’s always been one of my favourite spots.”

A 14-time major winner, Woods ended a two-year winless run at the Chevron World Challenge in December.

The tournament was hosted by the American and contained just 18 players, but Woods was happy to finish 2011 on a good note and hopes to carry that form into 2012.

“It was great to finish 2011 strong,” he said.

“More importantly, it’s good to be healthy again, and I’m hoping to get off to a fast start.”
